Keeping your children safe might seem like a full time job. There are thousands that are hurt from falling out of windows every year in the US. Children are especially at risk since they might not realize the danger that a fall presents.
Of course you are careful to keep an eye on your children, but a quick, curious and determined child can get itself into danger faster than expected. Having a sturdy bug screen in place can serve as a good first defense, but it should not be the only protection in place, since most bug screens aren’t made to hold up against pressure. If your windows open easily, you should install some type of locking mechanism to prevent children from opening them.
Having bushes and mulch on the ground underneath the windows in your home could also serve as a safeguard in case your child would fall out.
Never leave your child alone in the same room as an open window, even for a short time.
