How many devices do you have that need to be plugged in? The trend is that more and more electronics and appliances require electricity, and this has led to a problem for those that live in older homes. Since our use of electricity has changed, many homes don’t have as many wall outlets as you would need. The quick and simple solution to this is to use a power strip, but there are a few things to keep in mind to make sure that you use a power strip safely.
The main risk with a power strip is that you overload it. Power strips aren’t made to handle a big power draw. Usually you’ll be able to find a rating on how many amps or watts they are made for. If you were to exceed that, you could very well start a fire. Major appliances should never be plugged into a power strip. You should also avoid chaining several strips together, since this will greatly increase the load on the first strip in the line.
