Whenever you hear of problems with rust, your first thought might be that it is a problem for cars more than houses, but this is not always the case. In fact, there are many components of your home that are affected by rust, and it could be very damaging.
Whenever metal, water and oxygen mix, there is a high probability of rust forming.
But what problems could they cause in your home? Sometimes it could just be cosmetic, such as brown streaks where nails rusted, but other times it could be a serious concern, such as when the rebar inside of cement starts rusting, expanding and cracking the cement.
If your electric panel is rusting, this is a very serious problem, since it can lead to a short or even a fire. If this is the case, you should have an electrician take a look at it as soon as possible.
If you have a problem with rust, just painting over it won’t help. Rust will keep growing and spreading underneath the paint and make the problem worse. Instead, you need to deal with the problem by repairing and replacing items affected by rust before the problem gets out of hand.
